Create to Learn – Edinburgh Learns Digital Conference 2024

After months of meticulous planning, it is hard to believe that this year’s Edinburgh Learns Digital Conference has already been and gone.

Nearly 150 Digital Learning Coordinators (DLCs) from our Primary, Secondary and Special Schools gathered under one roof to explore ways in which we are supporting our learners to creatively solve problems, present their learning, as well as building their digital skills for the real world.

Our very own Dave McKee opened the event, followed by Cllr Joan Griffiths, both speaking about the potential that technology has to enhance the teaching and learning landscape for our teachers and young people in Edinburgh.

As well as sessions developed by our team here at Edinburgh Learns Digital, some of our DLCs shared their expertise and experiences in the classroom to lead workshops on a variety of skills, such as using audio to engage learners and the practical aspects of Minecraft Education.

We also had offerings from specialists across the digital spectrum, with representatives from ClickView, Apple, Education Scotland, Edinburgh Learns, Digital Schools Award Scotland, University of Edinburgh and E-Sgoil all delivering practical and hands-on workshops that left our participants eager to get back to their own contexts to try things out for themselves. For a full list of what was on offer, see here.

Woven between the workshops, our DLCs were treated to sector specific sessions providing opportunities to simultaneously skill build and network with like-minded professionals in similar situations.

Michael Conlon, Education Transformation Consultant at XMA took on the post-lunch crowd, but soon had us all completely absorbed in his keynote about AI and Creativity and expressing thoughts and imagination.

The conference may be over for this year, but we are only just beginning and we are looking forward to seeing the ripple effect that this mass sharing of Digital skills will have on our schools and their communities.
