We kicked off the 2025-26 run of Live Lessons with our first ever collaboration with Edinburgh Zoo as part of Maths Week Scotland!
This year’s theme was Wild Maths, and everyone who joined us this time used problem solving skills to build an app on Keynote, building in images from the zoo enclosures and using the opportunity to consolidate our understanding of a chosen mental maths skill.
In our first lesson, we were joined by Rebecca, a Community and Discovery Officer at Edinburgh Zoo, who took us all on a mass school trip (34 classes across 25 schools!) to explore behind the scenes, explaining how she and the rest of the team use mental maths every day, to help them give the animals the correct care.
We were then led step by step to build a maths quiz in Keynote, linking slides, inserting images, playing with layout, troubleshooting and much more. There was space for everyone; beginner, intermediate and expert, and it was a real chance everyone to learn to show their understanding in a new way.
