Burns Goes Digital Live Lesson

Our first live lesson of 2026 began with a celebration of Scotland’s National Poet, Robert Burns, paying digital tribute to his Address to a Haggis. This tied writing and digital literacy into learning taking place across schools centred around Burns Night.

Focused on exploring Scots language, Robert Burns’ impact, and digital literacy skills, the Burns Goes Digital live lesson was attended by 115 classes across the city. Learners took part in a quiz on Scots vocabulary before finding out more about Burns’ legacy. They were then guided through creating their own mythical haggis using the Shapes tools in Keynote. Learners explored how to group, rotate, and format shapes before moving their haggis into a traditional Highland landscape by changing slide backgrounds.

Learners then added Scots vocabulary using a prepared word bank, before animating both the text and their haggis. This was then exported and saved as a finished project. Learners adapted and personalised their haggis and Scots vocabulary, creating an army of distinctively described creatures.

We’ll always post about our Live Lessons here, and you’ll also see them in the ELD Newsletter – hopefully we’ll see you at the next one!
