Safer Internet Day 2026

Our second ever set of Live Assemblies to mark Safer Internet Day UK was big, with 60 of our Primary Schools taking part in 241 classrooms across the city; some in little groups, and some in their big assembly halls!

This year’s theme was complex one:

Smart Tech, Safe Choices:
Exploring the Safe and Responsible use of AI

Our young people will grow up in a world where AI has always been around in some form. The assemblies were very much about AI, rather than promoting its use. Many of our young people have indicated that they are beginning to use it at home, so it is important to ensure that they have a good age appropriate understand of it. Through these assemblies, they were carefully and creatively guided through understanding what AI is, with storytelling, quizzes, misconception busting and a fair amount of silliness and fun.

Blue made an appearance again for the P1-3s, and this time it was Mama who was up to mischief; using AI to pretend that she had met her favourite band! Poor Blue believed her, and forgot to use what he already knew about Mama to figure it out.

The P4-5s had their own assembly too, followed by the P6-7s. Again, exploring not only what AI is but what it means for them going forward.

Lots of interesting discussions were had and it has certainly left us with lots of ideas for future Live Assemblies.

Huge thank you to everyone who took part!
