In Edinburgh schools, digital learning is at the core of high quality learning and teaching. We aim to ensure all learners are digitally capable, so they can create, communicate and collaborate digitally, transforming their learning opportunities and enabling access to a broader curriculum and more flexible pathways provided by the city’s education establishments.

To help achieve this, all learners in Edinburgh have appropriate access to digital technologies right through from Nursery all the way up to S6. If your child is in P1 to P5, they will have access to shared iPads in their school, used by teachers as one of many tools to make learning and teaching an exciting, engaging, inclusive and meaningful experience for our young people.

As of P6, learners are then allocated an iPad each to further enhance their learning with (amongst many other things!) the ability to personalise their device to suit their own individual learning needs as they get to know what works for them, as well as readying them for the world they are growing up in.
Adults take the lead in supporting our learners to do all of this safely and responsibly, and guide them to use technologies in a positive and constructive way.
This is a real team effort though, and Parents and Carers are extremely important members of that team!
